Although I wrote this reflection shortly after returning home from Scotland in the spring, it remains relevant. Although Eliot penned these words in the WWII era, the verses describing the “whole earth” as “our hospital” speak poignantly to our current situation in the midst of political and cultural unrest, as well as the literal illness of the Covid-19 pandemic.
And yet, “the wounded surgeon” lives. Even now, we can take hope in Eliot’s words as they testify to the saving, enduring Word.
